The Best Sting Relief
BiteMD
Simple Application, Compact and Durable
This little pen can be stored in your kit to provide quick sting relief that anyone can use with one hand.
*Price as of publication; please check for price changes and sales.
Cutter is known for their preventative sprays (repellants), but they also have a great product. BiteMD is a combination of benzocaine and camphor in a small applicator stick. This makes it simple to treat and store while on the go. It weighs in at just one ounce, but it has multiple uses so it will last much longer than single applications. It's small and light enough to be added to any survival or first aid kit, or to carry with you when you go outside.
BiteMD is a winner because of its effectiveness and ease-of-use. We will continue to include it in our first aid kits.
Budget Sting Relief
Pac-Kit Sting Relief
It's fast, easy, and light.
These wipes can be used for first aid or survival kit purposes.
*Price at the time of publication; verify for price changes or sales.
Pac-Kit boxes are the restockable parts of standard first aid kits. Although the box is too small for the 10 packets contained, it's still a high-quality product that's affordable. The ingredients include benzocaine (like others on the list) and isopropyl Alcohol. These ingredients act quickly to numb the affected area, making the initial sting/bite more bearable.
These boxes can be broken up and added only a few packets to our survival kits. This allows us to save even more money. While this reduces the cost, weight and profile, it still provides effective numbing agents for bites or stings. Get Pac-Kit Sting Relief for budget relief.

Sting-Kill
Compact, effective, and light weight
The most potent relief, which doubles the amount of benzocaine/menthol, will take the bite out.
*Price as of publication; please check for price changes and sales.
Sting-Kill has been a leader in this field for quite some time and it's not hard to see why. The capsules contain tons of benzocaine, menthol and other ingredients that can be mixed together when crushed. The chemical reaction can be applied directly to the bite or sting, providing instant relief. The effects can last for several hours even though it is a very small amount. Due to the strength of the product, it is not recommended to apply more than four a day.
StingKill is the best choice for first aid and survival kit.

We compared
We narrowed down the options to several bite relief products that we tested.
See our complete list of review criteria in the what to expect section. Each item is explained.
It was quickly realized that suction kits are not effective for bites or stings. They also don't work for other first-aid applications. Botflies are one of the few things that suction kits can help. However, this is more to do with the larvae under your skin rather than the venom from a bite.
We are always on the lookout for better and new equipment. If you have any sting relief you love, let us know in the comments. Most of our gear is reviewed annually so that we can include it in the next roundup.
What should you look for
There are several key features that you should look out for when choosing the best sting relief:
- Value
- Effectiveness
- Medicine Type
- Size and Weight
- Versatility
You can get reliable pain relief that will allow you to carry on if you combine the right combination of these elements. We will explain what each feature means to provide reliable pain relief.
Value: Cost vs. Benefit
Your budget shouldn't be blown out by the amount you spend on a niche component of first aid. Don't overspend or do it too often. Spending lavishly and at your risk will not help you budget.
You don't want the wrong thing or to spend too much. It won't do much to relieve the pain or itching by rubbing triple antibiotics or hydrogen peroxide onto a bite or sting.
It is not a good idea to spend too much on one resource, particularly if it is specialized in first aid. To ensure you're prepared for all scenarios, it is better to have a variety of emergency supplies. Our top pick is the one that offers high value and low prices.
Effectiveness
The following factors determine how effective a sting relief package is:
- Pain reduction/elimination
- Itch reduction/elimination
- Effects last for a certain amount of time
- Side effects
It is important to limit the pain as some bites and stings can be very painful. Intense pain can be caused by stings from box jellyfish and bullet ants. These stings are not always fatal, but they can make it difficult to get much done if you don't treat them. For the best sting relief, the solution that dulls and reduces the pain for the longest time is the best.
Also, you don't want every problem to be solved with a sledgehammer. Therefore, treatments that have major side effects (such motor impairment) should not even be considered.
Medicine Type
The most effective treatment was to numb the area affected by the bite/sting. There are several doses of:
- Benzocaine
- Lidocaine
- Menthol
Other ingredients were usually used for sterilization and speed of application. We found that the benzocaine treatments performed slightly better.
Size and Weight
There are many delivery methods for sting relief. We tested a variety of options: swabs, capsules and swabs, application pens, wipes, capsules and capsules. These methods made it easier to use, but also had an impact on the size and weight.
You know that size and weight are both important factors when it comes to gear for mobile survival and first aid kits. Sting relief was easy to use, even though it was heavy.
Versatility
These options offer versatility in two ways. One, you can use the sting relief to treat more than just stings and two, it is easier to apply the treatment.
Although sting relief can be used to treat other injuries, it is not recommended. First aid kits have better options. It's a huge advantage to be able to treat bites or stings with one hand. The ease of use was the main reason our top pick stood out.
Sting Relief
That bite or sting is painful!
Get rid of any stingers that you find. Keep track of the details. You will need to get rid of any stingers that remain at the site.
Clean the area. Hot water may be able to relieve the itching and pain. (Hot, but not scorching).
After it is clean, you can apply the pain relief and the numbing agent will kick in quickly.
Coyote demonstrates how to use the upgrade pick (with older packaging) in this video. It is funny, but it works.
Who needs Sting Relief?
Sting relief is not necessary as you can live without it. It's worth having if you really need it. You don't have to suffer through the pain for several days or even minutes. Instead, you can address the problem and move on.
The sting relief kits that we tested were all very light so you don't have to worry about how heavy they are.
We recommend that you add them:

Make sure you have enough for yourself and your family.
How we review products: We do extensive research before choosing the best products to review. Experts in the field are consulted to gain a better understanding about the gear's strengths and weaknesses. Gear is tested in harsh conditions and hours are spent testing it. We evaluate each item and assign performance criteria. Some of the items we review end up in our giveaways.
